Jacob Ramsey has won the Premier League’s Academy Graduate award after a brilliant breakout campaign at Aston Villa.

The award is handed out to some of the game’s brightest young talents that have made the transition from a club’s academy to the senior team.

Ramsey, 21, was named as this year’s outstanding candidate at an annual Development Conference put on by the division on Monday.

The midfielder has starred at times for his club this term, playing 34 games in the league as Unai Emery has turned the club from relegation contenders to European hopefuls.

In that period, Ramsey has also got himself on the scoresheet six times, as well as providing five assists to his team-mates.

England and Arsenal star Bukayo Saka lifted the award last season having been at the Gunners since he was seven

His 100th appearance for his club came on Saturday, in a thrilling 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield that saw the hosts clinch a late point through Roberto Firmino.

And Ramsey brought up his century in style, scoring his side’s goal in the 27th minute.

The visitors put an out-swinging delivery into the box from a free-kick, only for Ramsey to sneak in unmarked at the back post and slam home past Trent Alexander-Arnold.

By winning the award, though, the 21-year-old follows in the Liverpool defender’s footsteps, with the England international having lifted the gong in (2018-19) .

Other previous winners include Arsenal and England star Bukayo Saka (2021-22), Chelsea’s Mason Mount (2020-21), and Manchester United talisman Marcus Rashford (2019-20).

It is not just in claret and blue that Ramsey has impressed either, having taken on the armband for the Under 21 England side in a recent game against Croatia in March.
