Arsenal: What January business do they need to do?
Arsenal are considering a surprise move for Chelsea hero Diego Costa, who has been told he can leave Atletico Madrid next month. The La Liga leaders are prepared to let the striker go six months before the end of his contract, which comes to an end next summer at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Things haven’t gone entirely to plan for Costa since returning to Atletico from Chelsea in 2018.
The 32-year-old has been haunted by a host of injury problems and it appears he is now past his best.
Despite that, the controversial figure who fired Chelsea to two Premier League titles is determined to stay in Europe after receiving offers from China and Brazil.
Atletico have now given him permission to miss training so he can focus on finding his next club.

He is one of their biggest earners and getting Costa’s wages off the books would enable Diego Simeone and the board to free up some transfer funds.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Arsenal are monitoring the situation and are considering a move for Costa.
The Gunners are looking to add another striker to their ranks after a lack of goals this season under Mikel Arteta.
Alexandre Lacazette’s long-term future in north London remains a doubt as he enters the final 18 months of his contract.

Arsenal held talks about a potential swap deal for Thomas Partey involving Lacazette, before triggering the Ghanaian’s £45million release clause on deadline day.
In the end, Lacazette stayed put but now Costa could come in to provide more competition for the Frenchman and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The report adds that Atletico are still not best pleased with the way Arsenal snatched Partey from their clutches in October.
Arsenal went to La Liga HQ to deposit the midfielder’s £45m release clause in full without telling Atletico.
Atletico did get the chance to negotiate a loan deal with the Gunners for Lucas Torreira but thankfully they have not missed Partey.
Costa has rarely featured this season following the arrival of Luis Suarez from Barcelona.
The Uruguayan is hoping to get one over on his former club by firing Los Rojiblancos to the La Liga title.
Simeone is eyeing Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik as a potential replacement for Costa and the Poland international striker is out of contract next summer, meaning a cut-price deal is there to be struck in January.
