Arsenal fans think Thomas Partey will spark Nicolas Pepe into life after Ghana display

Arsenal fans have been left ‘salivating’ over Thomas Partey’s contribution to Ghana’s 5-1 friendly win over Qatar on Monday. It’s Partey’s second match appearance since the midfielder joined the Gunners on transfer deadline day.

The 27-year-old’s performance against Qatar, though, has got fans talking with footage circulating of the Gunners new boy bagging an assist.

It was his second assist in the win and a nice lofted through ball for Samuel Owusu to tuck home. The nicely weighted pass has left Arsenal fans’ imaginations racing, with many believing Nicolas Pepe in particular will benefit from the midfielder’s arrival.

“Pepe will be eating good this season with passes like that.” one fan said on Reddit.

“Parteys passing + auba and pepe pace will be mad,” another posted.

“Pepe salivating,” one comment read.

“Our forwards will love these passes,” another Redditer commented. “Auba, Pepe, and even Laca makes theses runs all the time, but our midfielders rarely play it.”

Partey will play his final game for Ghana in this international break tonight before travelling to Arsenal and finally being unveiled.

The Ghanian is expected to feature in Arsenal’s clash against Manchester City this weekend and make a welcome difference.

One man looking forward to his arrival is Arteta, who spoke very highly of Partey after Arsenal announced the deal was complete.

“We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game,” the Gunners boss said. “He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”

Technical director Edu echoed Arteta’s words and added: “Thomas – physicality, quality and mentally he is very strong. In the end, if you see all these players we brought to the club, they are very good here (points to legs), but they are better here (points to head), which for me is very important because when you talk to the players, they have a lot of ambition, they are excited and they are hungry to win a title again.”

Avram Grant, of all people, also gave an exciting insight into what Arsenal fans can expect of Partey.

“From the first time I watched him, I saw a player who was very strong and good on the ball, who understands the game very well,” Grant told The Sun.

“Even when he was relatively young and inexperienced, he knew what he needed to do in terms of possession and position, how to get in the right place at the right time.

“But he’s also a very good boy, on and off the pitch, with a great character. He wants to do his job and he is very consistent.”
