Arsenal V Manchester United: Pictures
Arsenal could reportedly sell another one of their first-team stars over the coming weeks, with Fenerbahce thought to be considering a move for Jorginho. The Gunners have already waved goodbye to 13 players this summer, including the likes of Granit Xhaka, Folarin Balogun, Rob Holding and Matt Turner.
The transfer window in England closed on Friday but it remains open for business in some other countries, with Turkish clubs able to continue signing players until September 15. It seems as though Jorginho could be on the move before then after emerging as a potential target for Fenerbahce, according to Ajansspor.
It is claimed that the Turkish giants are keen on negotiating a move for Jorginho, who has only been at Arsenal for a few months since joining from Chelsea in January. Fenerbahce are reportedly in the market for a deep-lying playmaker and Jorginho is said to be their first choice, although it remains to be seen whether the Gunners will be prepared to sell.
The Italian midfielder registered 16 appearances for Arsenal during the second half of last season and may be required to provide cover for the injured Thomas Partey. The latter picked up a hamstring problem in training earlier this week and is expected to be sidelined for several months, potentially opening the door for Jorginho to feature in his place.

However, his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, at which point he will be able to leave north London on a free transfer. Arsenal could, therefore, decide to cash in on Jorginho now in order to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer of 2024.
He has also struggled for regular minutes this season, making just two league appearances off the bench, although he could be given a bigger role in the absence of Partey over the coming weeks. The prospect of a regular starting spot at Fenerbahce might appeal to Jorginho, but only time will tell if he ends up making the switch to Turkey in the near future.

The 31-year-old was overlooked by Mikel Arteta for Sunday’s game against Manchester United, with the Spaniard opting to deploy his established midfield trio of Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz. He clearly seems to rate Jorginho, though, after insisting last month that his experience will be crucial when it comes to helping the club’s younger players.
“Jorgi’s experience is very important, and then we have to use that and allow them to lead and self-police in certain moments,” said Arteta. “When it comes from the dressing room, that’s the most powerful thing. We haven’t gone from the end of May to the beginning of August from being young to now being mature.”
