Mikel Arteta hopes to be talking about football after Arsenal’s trip to Sevilla
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been told all there is to know about transfer target Pedro Neto by his Wolves boss Gary O’Neil. The Gunners continue to be linked with a move for the incredibly talented Portuguese winger as they eye Premier League glory come the end of the season.
Speculation has once again ramped up following Neto’s impressive start to the season at Molineux Stadium, with the winger seen as the perfect player to rotate alongside Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli at the Emirates.
Add to the fact that Neto is a self-confessed Arsenal fan, it appears a transfer isn’t too unrealistic at all and he wouldn’t need any time for adaptation in North London having played in the Premier League since 2019.
And now O’Neil, who took over at Wolves on the eve of the new Premier League season after being brutally sacked by Bournemouth, heaped special praise on the 23-year-old while offering an insight into how he works behind-the-scenes.
“He’s been incredible, Jamie [Carragher],” the Wolves head coach told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football programme. “And not just – he has massive quality as you can see [here in the win against Manchester City] and you see every week; the way he trains and the way he’s been buying into everything I’ve asked of him in possession, out of possession; the way he drives to improve, the way he sets standards.
O’Neil was then asked about his future, replying: “He’s incredibly happy at Wolves. He’s enjoying his football, he’s rediscovered some fantastic form.
“He’d had a tough couple of years with injury and form, and he’s performing at his best. So he’s incredibly settled, happy at the club, and we’re going to try and help him achieve some big things while he’s here.”

While O’Neil has affirmed Neto is very settled at Wolves, he’ll know that the possibility of joining a club of the stature of Arsenal will be too hard to turn down and considering he followed the Gunners growing up, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see speculation between the two parties accelerate.
And O’Neil’s comments will only add weight to Arteta’s interest in Neto, with the Gunners boss knowing the winger is prepared to the dirty work behind the scenes and put the team first before individual glory.
Arteta has made sure to get rid of characters he has deemed divisive in the past, and the decision has played a massive part in guiding Arsenal back to where they want to be, and adding another player who ‘sets the standards’ will only aid the Gunners’ new-found mentality even more.
