Manly young gun signs new contract

The Sea Eagles have announced that young forward Josh Schuster has signed a new deal that will keep him at Lottoland until the end of 2024.

The 20-year-old joined the Sea Eagles’ Academy when he was only 14 and made his NRL debut in round 17 last year.

A hard-running second-rower with a penchant for kicking close to the line, Schuster has cemented his spot in the Sea Eagles’ best 17 this season.

He has played eight games for the Sea Eagles so far and says he is “very excited” to add to that tally.

“I’m looking forward to what the future holds,” Schuster said on Thursday.

“I started at this club when I was 14 years old and to get the opportunity to play NRL six years later means the world to me.”

On Sunday afternoon, Schuster’s Sea Eagles will take on the New Zealand Warriors for the second time this season.

Schuster scored a try in the sides’ clash in round five, levelling the scores and allowing Daly Cherry-Evans to kick a field goal to seal Manly’s first win of the season.

Since then, Des Hasler’s side has lost only one match, against the high-flying Panthers last week.

Manly could enter the top eight for the first time this season with a win on Sunday.
