Lewis Hamilton has explained his confusion regarding how drivers and team personnel will navigate the journey between the circuit and the city this weekend at the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix.
This event has been the headliner throughout the 2023 season with fans and drivers alike looking forward to F1’s return to Sin City. The sport has travelled to Las Vegas on two occasions before in 1981 and 1982 for the Caesars Palace Grand Prix, but this is the first time cars will ever race on the city streets.
In order to make the event – which is set to be one of the most lavish and eye-catching in F1 history – a possibility, F1 purchased land on which to build the brand-new pit building, laying the foundations for what is set to be ten seasons worth of single-seater racing in the city.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 ahead of the weekend, he said: “I just don’t understand how we’re gonna move around this place. I don’t understand how we’re gonna get from the track to the hotel.

“It’s gonna be such a compact spot [with] so many people. But I think it’s gonna be wild. It’s gonna be a wild experience and the best thing is just to go with an open mind, not having any pre-determined ideas of what it’s gonna be like and just take it all in when you get there. Driving in [the] night lights, I’m gonna feel like I’m in the casino movie, so pretty cool.”
Not every driver has been brimming with excitement regarding this weekend’s shot-stopping race in Las Vegas. Reigning world champion Max Verstappen is one of those who haven’t been won over by the hype and promotion surrounding the event.

Discussing his feelings towards this weekend’s race, he said: “First of all, I think we are there more for the show than the racing itself if you look at the layout of the track. But you know, I’m actually not that into it. I’m more like, I’ll go there and do my thing and be gone again.”
The three-time world champion was then asked whether or not that was the same context Monaco finds itself in, to which he replied: “Yes, but Monaco is also just history and the place itself. Everyone wants to have been to Monaco once. You can’t really compare.”
