Jenson Button had self-imposed sex ban with model GF to improve F1 title chances

Former Formula One title contender Jenson Button once put himself on a sex ban with his model girlfriend in a bid to improve his chances.

In an attempt to help himself secure the 2009 Drivers' Championship, Button banned himself from sleeping with his then partner and Japanese model Jessica Michibata. Button put the ban in place ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix in October 2009 as he looked to secure his first world title.

The 2009 Drivers' Championship proved to be the sole title of Button's 17-year F1 career, with the British driver finishing 11 points ahead of nearest rival Sebastian Vettel.

A source for Brawn GP, who Button drove for in 2009, revealed, via DNA India: "It's such an important weekend for Jenson. He has hundreds of things to do and wants to be able to concentrate on them alone. Jessica normally always travels with him but he has to keep his mind on the job – so to speak."

Button also revealed during the 2009 season that Michibata's foot massages were the secret to his success on the track whilst the couple were together.

Reflecting on his title triumph, Button credited his car for the victory in June last year, revealing: “I think that after my sixth win I thought this is going to be a piece of cake, and that was after seven races.

"I was like ‘guys you’ve built me a monster. And from then on it was really tough, I was like ‘Oh, maybe I shouldn’t have said that!’.”

After dating for several years, Button and Michibata tied the knot in 2014 but split just a year later. Button is now married to Playboy model Brittny Ward.

He and Ward married earlier this year four years after getting engaged, having had to cancel their big day on three separate occasions.

Covid and the birth of their two children forced the couple to reschedule their wedding before they finally tied the knot back in March.
