Spanish Grand Prix preview at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
Ferrari have been warned they “need Lewis Hamilton” as time runs out to make a move for the Mercedes star. F1 pundit and touring car legend Tom Coronel has called on the Scuderia to make a last-minute bid to secure the seven-time champion.
He claimed the Prancing Horse should be considering making a much larger offer in the hope that extra money could move his mind away from Mercedes. It comes after Hamilton was linked to a £40million move to Ferrari ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.
However, Hamilton seems uninterested in moving as he continues to pledge his allegiance to the Silver Arrows. Coronel told Viaplay: “They have to make a choice at Ferrari that shakes things up.
“A rumour is really cool, but for all I care I think they should pay Lewis [Hamilton] 20 million too much to get him. Then at least something happens in that team to give them a bit of positivity.

“They need someone like Lewis because the package they have is wrong. So start with this – drop the bomb. Because they need something new.” Hamilton is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to put pen to paper on a new agreement.
It has led to rumours circulating about the 38-year-old’s future in the sport as Mercedes continue to struggle. But, the German marque looked back on form in Spain with the team securing their first double podium finish of the season.
The positive result also saw Hamilton deliver a hammer blow to his rivals as he suggested talks would continue on Monday. He said: “I haven’t signed anything yet, but I think we are meeting with Toto tomorrow [Monday] so hopefully we can get something done.

“It wasn’t a subtle hint. We’ve had so many meetings and this is just another one of the meetings we are having. You could see today my performance is not affected by that, but it’s always something that’s at the back of your mind. Once that’s done then you are able to then focus more and think about the future.”
His remarks came just minutes after Toto Wolff also suggested negotiations were wrapping up. He told Sky Sports F1: “We just need time to sit over a coffee. That’s going to take half an hour.”
