Martin Brundle has taken to social media to offer a classy message following an awkward interview with Machine Gun Kelly during his grid walk segment at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday.
With the major rise in F1’s popularity has come an increased presence of celebrities on the grid before races and while many are delighted to be experiencing a Grand Prix weekend up close and personal, some have proved tricky customers when approached by Brundle during his grid walk segments.
Colson Baker – more commonly known as rapper and singer Machine Gun Kelly – was one such case. When approached on the grid by Brundle ahead of Sunday’s race at Interlagos, he seemed largely uninterested in the conversation and gave some confusing and cringeworthy responses to the Sky Sports F1 broadcaster’s questions.
When asked about the state of his own career, Baker responded initially by asking: “What are you saying?” He then went on to state: “Huh, my career… I don’t think about my career. I don’t think about it.”

The music artist was then asked what he thinks about the business of motorsport, replying: “This business is great. It’s loud, your life is on the line, that’s exciting. I was in the studio the other week and Lewis Hamilton was in the other studio. That was nice, yeah, yeah.”
Just as it looked as though Machine Gun Kelly was looking to shake the interview off, the 33-year-old stepped it up a notch, asking Brundle what he thought of the music business before trying to get him to play the air guitar live on the broadcast. This created some awkward tension before the Brit managed to move on to his next chat.

Brundle later took to the X social media platform to quote an old post including Baker as well as Megan Fox and Megan Thee Stallion. He wrote: “Finally, my claim to fame, I’ve met two of these three people. I do appreciate them taking some time out on the grid for our great sport … I hope they didn’t find me too weird.”
Where Machine Gun Kelly’s interview was awkward, Megan Thee Stallion’s remains legendary in F1 folklore. Approached by Brundle at the 2021 United States Grand Prix, the rapper initially answered his questions politely before her personal bodyguard interjected.
The bodyguard attempted to brush Brundle off, telling the legendary reporter that he “couldn’t do that,” prompting the now legendary response of: “I can do that because I did.”
