NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy responded to Eric Reid’s comments following the Panthers’ 52-21 loss to the Steelers on Thursday, defending the league’s policy on testing for performance-enhancing drugs.
McCarthy explained the NFL and the players’ union jointly oversee the random PED testing process, citing a page out of the NFL-NFLPA policy.
“Each week during the season, 10 players per club will be tested,” McCarthy wrote. “By means of a computer program, the policy’s jointly appointed Independent Administrator randomly selects before the game players to be tested.”

After Thursday’s game, Reid had a number of questions and concerns regarding the NFL’s policies. One question he raised was in regard to the amount of PED tests he has been forced to take throughout his six seasons with the league.
“This is like the fifth time since I’ve been here,” he said. “They’re not going to catch me on anything.”
The NFL has randomly selected Eric Reid to take a drug test after tonight’s game.

Reid signed a one-year deal with the Panthers in late September after spending the first part of the 2018 season as a free agent.
Back on the field and having played six games with the Panthers, the Pro Bowl player already has recorded 36 total tackles with one sack and one interception. He led the team Thursday with nine tackles against the Steelers.
