NBA: Ex-Suns GM Ryan McDonough opened up about over-the-phone firing

The Suns made a surprising front-office move just eight days before the season and fired general manager Ryan McDonough after just over five years in Phoenix.

While McDonough did strike big with the drafting of Devin Booker (and Deandre Ayton), much of his time in Phoenix was plagued by self-inflicted roster mistakes, a dysfunctional relationship between the players and front office and embarrassingly bad drafting ( See: 2016).

Firing McDonough wasn’t a controversial decision, but the timing certainly was suspect. On Monday, McDonough joined ESPN’s The Jump and offered more details about his Phoenix tenure and ousting.
