Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians isn’t buying into speculation suggesting Cam Newton can’t throw the long ball.
The Panthers’ offense seemed reluctant to utilize Newton’s arm strength during their 30-27 loss to the Rams in Week 1, but Arians expects Newton to be a threat downfield when Tampa Bay faces off against Carolina in Charlotte on Thursday.
“I don’t think there is any doubt about it, or he wouldn’t be playing,” Arians told reporters Tuesday when asked if he thought Newton could throw a pass longer than 20 yards.
Newton only attempted one throw of that distance against Los Angeles on Sunday and struggled to do so consistently in 2018 because of a torn rotator cuff.
