Amid trade request, Jets’ Jamal Adams tweets support to Bill Belichick for Cam Newton deal

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams has requested a trade but it's unclear if the franchise will make a deal before the 2020 season.

Adams, who put out a list of seven teams he'd like to be traded to in his public request two weeks ago, showed he isn't against forcing the Jets' hand.

The two-time Pro Bowl strong safety made a strong effort to get out of New York on Sunday, tweeting praise to a division rival and a coach loathed by Jets fans.

"I salute Coach Bill Belichick for that!” Adams tweeted on Sunday on the heels of the New England Patriots signing quarterback Cam Newton. "That’s real. Congratulations Cam!"

Belichick, who was the defensive coordinator for the Jets from 1997 to 1999, has been a longtime rival targeted by Jets fans. He holds a 30-10 record against New York.

Jets head coach Adam Gase said last week he preferred Adams remain with the franchise. Adams has played for New York for three years since being selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Newton signed a one-year, incentive-driven deal with the Patriots on Sunday that could earn him up to $7.5 million.

I salute Coach Bill Belichick for that!
That’s Real. Congratulations Cam!
