Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. to compete in NBA 2K Players Tournament – The Denver Post

Sure, Michael Porter Jr. moves well on the court and has a silky smooth shot, but how good are his thumbs?

The Nuggets forward is one of 16 professional basketball players who will compete in the NBA 2K Players Tournament, which kicks off 5 p.m. Friday on ESPN and ESPN2. The competitors will play head-to-head online in NBA 2K20.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the NBA and NBPA to bring basketball back to fans throughout the world and to help those in need during these uncertain times,” 2K senior vice president of sports strategy and licensing Jason Argent said in a news release. “Entertainment, especially sports, has the ability to bring communities together – including athletes, fans and families – and we hope that everyone will enjoy the tournament.”

Porter was given the 12th seed and will face No. 5 Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns in the first round. Seeding was awarded by the player’s NBA 2K rating and then tenure.

The competitors will each choose eight of the current NBA teams in the game before the start of the tournament. Each of the teams can only be used once per player. If two players competing against one another choose the same teams, the away team will awarded the first choice.

The first two rounds are single elimination. The semifinals and finals will be a best-of-three matchup.
