NBA trade rumors: Lakers expected to finalize deal for Thunder’s Dennis Schroder, per report

The Lakers aren’t resting on their laurels.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the defending champs are expected to finalize a deal for Thunder guard Dennis Schröder on Monday, giving the Lakers a versatile guard off the bench.

Danny Green and the Lakers’ No. 28 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft are expected to head OKC’s way, per Wojnarowski, who also noted that other teams were in the running for Schröder; they have now shifted focus elsewhere in trade discussions.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne initially reported the Lakers’ desire to trade for Schröder, who Los Angeles feels would help provide playmaking help for LeBron James. The move would further indicate LA’s desire to showcase Schröder’s unique skillset as a guard, who played in a three-guard system with the Thunder last season.

As the Thunder’s sixth man, Schröder averaged 18.9 points per game on 47 percent shooting from the floor, with 4.0 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game in 2019-2020. He will be a free agent at the end of the 2020-21 season.
