Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins responds to locker-room rift rumours

Kirk Cousins has played down rumours surrounding early season locker room drama.

The Minnesota Vikings lock horns with the Seattle Seahawks tonight and remain firmly in playoff contention.

They sit second in the NFC North with a respectable 8-3 record.

Their form has seen a remarkable turnaround in recent weeks. The early stages of the campaign were blighted by erratic form and individual errors.

Ahead of tonight’s showdown, Cousins was interviewed by ESPN .

The ex-Washington Redskins quarterback was asked directly about speculation that divisions behind the scenes were rife.

“There were rumblings,” Lisa Salters said.

“One receiver is questioning the passing game and another is rumoured to have won it out. What was going on back then?”

However, Cousins was coy when replying to questioning.

“I don’t really know myself,” he said. “At the end of the day, we started 2-2. It wasn’t 0-4 but it wasn’t 4-0.

“Fortunately we got back on track that next week and we were able to string together some victories.

“Now we’re sitting at 8-3. But 8-3 isn’t the end of the story.

“We’ve got five games to go and it’s a big one on Monday night.

“People forget about how you start, but they remember how you finish, so we need to finish strong.”

When asked why dissent in the ranks didn’t cause the Viking to fall apart, Cousins added: “You just go back to work.

“I don’t think there’s any secret answer.

“You just say: ‘hey, we’ve got to go and beat the Giants’.

“I wasn’t going past that. I was trying to go and win six or seven, I was just tying to get a win against the Giants and go 3-2.

“I had a good week of preparation. And, as cliche as it sounds, you just go one game at a time and one practice at a time.

“Here we are at 8-3 with a lot of work still ahead of us.”
