LeBron James made sure to call his mom after NBA Finals win: ‘I hope I continue to make you proud’

LeBron James did something most people can relate to Sunday night: After his work day was done, he called his mother.

Reporters captured James on the floor of the Los Angeles Lakers’ locker room Facetiming his mother, Gloria, after winning the 2020 NBA Finals. James helped capture the Lakers’ 17th NBA title and his own fourth ring with a Game 6 triple-double of 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists.

“Everything that you have been through, everything that I’ve seen, it’s nothing that can stop me,” James can be heard telling his mother. “Because this shit right here, this is nothing compared to what you had to go through… God is good. God is great. I hope I continue to make you proud, Mom.”

James was raised by his single mother in Akron, Ohio after Gloria had James when she was 16. In each of James’ four regular-season MVP acceptance speeches, he’s made it a point to thank his mother.

Earlier this season, after James recorded a triple-double against Oklahoma City that made him the first player to get a triple-double against all 30 NBA teams, he shared a text exchange with his mother on Instagram.

Love you Mama!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Words can’t express how much I do. You’re simply INCREDIBLE
