LeBron James, Lakers step up late to beat Nuggets for first home win

LOS ANGELES — LeBron James claimed his first home win as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers to end the Denver Nuggets’ perfect start to the season on Thursday night.

James was powerful and efficient, racking up his first Lakers triple-double with 28 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds at the Staples Center as Los Angeles clinched a 121-114 victory over the in-form Nuggets, which had come in on the back of a four-game winning streak to begin the season.

Denver led by eight midway through the final period, but consecutive 3-pointers from Lance Stephenson sparked a dramatic revival that turned the clash on its head. James then returned to reclaim the lead with a thunderous dunk at 3:29 of the fourth, and the Lakers would never again relinquish their advantage.
