Dana White 'sold' on idea of Khabib coaching against Ferguson on TUF

‘Hopefully they get p****d off at each other, then I can make them fight!’: Dana White is ‘sold’ on the idea of Khabib Nurmagomedov coaching against old rival Tony Ferguson on The Ultimate Fighter TV show

  • Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from competition after beating Justing Gaethje
  • He is now the president of Eagle FC but wants to coach on The Ultimate Fighter
  • Reality show pits two UFC stars against each other as leaders of teams
  • At the end, they usually both fight, so Dana White is hoping it can happen

Dana White ‘will absolutely consider’ Khabib Nurmagomedov coaching against Tony Ferguson on The Ultimate Fighter.

Khabib, who has been in retirement since beating Justin Gaethje to defend his title in 2020, was open to the idea after Ferguson suggested it.

He previously told ESPN: ‘I like this idea, honestly. I like this idea, we can do some stuff.

Khabib Nurmagomedov accepted Tony Ferguson’s call to coach against him on TUF

Khabib and Ferguson were scheduled to fight five times but never made it to the octagon

‘Right now, not too many big stars in UFC right now. Myself, I’m finished, Jon Jones is not there, Henry Cejudo not there, Daniel Cormier not there, I don’t like this guy but he has big name – Conor not there.

‘Adesanya, Volkanovski, of course Ngannou, and my brother, pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman. Only a few people, you know.

‘If me and Tony are gonna be Ultimate Fighter coaches, I think they can create some good content, you know?’

Typically, the two coaches on The Ultimate Fighter pick teams and help train them to beat their rivals, who all live in the same house on the reality TV show.

At the end, those coaches usually fight each other and clearly that would be the desire for White.

The UFC president tried desperately to persuade Khabib not to retire but his pleas fell on deaf ears. The idea of him coaching on TUF is certainly of interest though.

He told The Spinnin Backfist MMA Show: ‘So you’re telling me, you guys as fans, media, whatever it might be, like the idea of two guys possibly coaching that wouldn’t fight each other?

‘I’ll consider it. Congratulations. I will absolutely entertain that idea.’

‘Hopefully they’ll get p****d off enough at each other that they actually want to fight and I can make them fight,’ White joked.

‘I’m in. You sold me.’

Khabib retired at 29-0 as lightweight champion and fans are desperate for him to return

Ferguson is on a dreadful run having been on the cusp of a title shot with Khabib many times. He has now lost his last four and most recently was spectacularly knocked out by Michael Chandler.

His proposed fights with Ferguson fell through five times and seemed cursed so there would be plenty of interest if Khabib dipped his toe back in the water for the UFC.

The death of his father Abdulmanap led him to promise his mother that the Gaethje bout would be his last and he has been as good as his word.
