The harsh reaction came one day after some questioned Roberts’ decision to remove starting pitcher Rich Hill with one out in the seventh inning in Game 4. The Dodgers were winning 4-0 at the time but their bullpen failed to hold the lead.

Los Angeles went on to fall 9-6.

Roberts explained his decision to replace Hill after the game.

“I had a conversation with Rich, and we talked about it,” Roberts told reporters. “He said, ‘Keep an eye on me. I’m going to give it everything I have. Let’s go hitter to hitter and just keep an eye on me.’ So right there, I know Rich did everything he could, competed, left everything out there.”

Clayton Kershaw started Game 5 for the Dodgers on Sunday and gave up a two-run homer to Steve Pearce in the first inning.
