Shaping up for a big day of racing at Port Macquarie on Monday where there are eight races to negotiate and big fields in the majority of races.
Race 3 No. 8: Just Like Lisa
Was smashed in the betting here first-up but got too far back (as is her way) and was up against a handy leader who won. Stick with her this time.
Race 5 No. 8: Oakfield Romance
Placed in three from five first-up, runner-up at both runs at this trip and, best of all, she has trialled rather well ahead of
Race 8 No. 9: Oakfield Target
Was $81 in $61 in a very strong race on Scone Cup day. Faded in the straight but he will be a lot better off here in both fitness and class terms.
R5: 6, 8, 10. R6: 2, 5, 10, 11.
R7: 3, 4, 7. R8: 5, 6, 9, 10.
JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
Darryl McLellan, aka Digger, will don the Oakfield colours five times and they are all winning chances, too.
Oakfield Warpaint is one of five ‘Oakfield’ horses owned by Bruce McKenzie racing at Port today. Make no mistake, this is the best bred one of them all being by Exceed And Excel and shares the same 3rd Dam as Frankel. As for this gelding, he has run in two provincial races in his career with varying degrees of success. This is his race to step up now. Lookonchina has placed four from six, three of them are seconds so has to go in. Prince Six could run well.
Bet: Oakfield Warpaint win
Flying Mojo is on a hat-trick of Benchmark 58’s. The Neil Godbolt trained local carried 59kg at his first one of the sequence, then 61 and now has 63.5kg – wow! Weight stops trains but a lot of punters thought that last time and he still won. Allan Kehoe has Schoona The Better in ripping shape of late. Just has to tick that 2000m box which he could today of course. Pressing Matters is way down in class from his run in a Benchmark 83 six weeks ago.
Bet: Flying Mojo win, exacta 1 to beat 3
Just Like Lisa is quite a handy filly. A chestnut like her sire, Choisir, Just Like Lisa has mixed and matched it with some uncommonly strong maidens horses in her short career. She was crunched first-up n the betting but long story short, she gave away too much of a start to a handy leader who ended up winning. Huge run by ‘Lisa’ though! Broad Outlook was most impressive winning a trial at Cessnock 12-days ago. Big watch. Jet pack is from a smart camp.
Bet: Just Like Lisa win
Playful is a first starter trained by Tracey Bartley with Patrick Scorse riding. The filly sent out the right signs when she finished a neck third in a Wyong trial on May 17. In the right race if she is good enough to convert. Pollard remains winless after 21 starts but bear in mind that he has placed at eight of them. Had no luck again with the draw but he’s mighty quick. A Tender Lady has a great draw, a great jockey and ran well at Grafton first-up. Respect.
Bet: Playful win, box trifecta 5,7,9.10

Oakfield Romance has only won two from 26 but the daughter of Hinchinbrook has 14 placings, half seconds, half thirds. As well as that, she has placed three of five when first-up and with two good trials behind her, she ought to at least place here. Makana has been dealt a wide gate here but she is well placed in all other regards. Sister Ellie has won two of her last three, one of them was here over this trip. Easy to like.
Bet: Oakfield Romance win
Oakfield Prince is a son of So You Think who has raced three times for a win (bolted in!), a sixth in a good Class 2 first-up then that last starts second at Tuncurry. Just in case you missed it, Damien lane has five ‘Oakfields’ running today and he picked this one as his best one so we have to respect his judgment. Prince Arli is a massive danger though IMO. This horse is ‘one for one’ at the track and distance and is peaking big time! Gin Runner is going well.
Bet: Oakfield Prince win, quinella 2,11, Daily Double 1st leg (8), 2nd leg (9)
Impulse Control has raced at Port at two of her four career starts. She trotted in on the Heavy 10 one day to win the maiden. The last time we saw her here was 13-days ago when she was runner-up to open the new campaign. Note the win was second-up! Oakfield Navajo defied the betting drift, $2.25 to $4, when won like a $1.40 shot in that maiden at Tuncurry. Go well again. Paxos Miss looked the winner on paper first run for Adam Duggan and got a Dylan Gibbons gem.
Bet: Impulse Control win, box First 4: Nos. 2,3,4,6,7
Oakfield Target was $81 into $61 when he resumed in what has turned out to be a very strong Class 2 at Scone on Cup day which has already produced two city winners and counting. Oakfield Target led and faded late but wasn’t hopeless and is a second-up winner. Two Up is a horse in form, that’s plain after viewing his last start – easy – win here over this trip. Camp Rifle has trialled well and is housed in an astute stable.
Bet: Oakfield Target each-way
