I’m A Celeb: Frankie Dettori and Tony Bellew arrive in the jungle
Frankie Dettori is more concerned with snakes and creepy crawlies at the moment rather than checking his bank balance but when he finally escapes from the Australian jungle he will return to a life of wealth that is simply unobtainable for most of us. The legendary jockey is currently taking part in the latest series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and will collect a not-too-shabby fee for putting himself at the mercy of the jungle, not to mention the British public.
The 52-year-old started his career in 1986 and has gone on to ride over 3,000 winners and is still going. Earlier this year he announced that he would retire at the end of the 2023 season, with the Breeders’ Cup set to be his last ride, but made a sensational U-turn last month, saying he will continue to race in the US from next year.
Detorri famously rode all seven winners on the card at British Champions’ Day at Royal Ascot in 1996.
The Italian is believed to have earned over £153 million from racing across his remarkable career and is estimated to have an individual net worth of around £18 million.
But while the ultra-popular jockey won’t have to worry about the cost of a flight out of Australia when he finally departs the jungle over the next few weeks, his personal fortune is a mere drop in the ocean when compared to American tennis star Jessica Pegula.
The current women’s world No. 5 was something of a late bloomer at the top of the WTA but after breaking into the top 100 has gone on to cement her place firmly in the very highest bracket of current players and he previously been ranked as high as world No. 3.
At £9.8 million, the 29-year-old’s career prize money is far behind the achievements of Dettori but Pegula blows almost everyone out of the water when it comes to overall net wealth.
The Buffalo-born sportswoman is the daughter of American billionaire businessman Terry Pegula who owns the NFL’s Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres from the NHL. As a result, the majority of Jessica’s wealth is kept within her family, but this year’s WTA Finals runner-up is estimated to have an unbelievable net worth of around £5.3 billion.

That means her net worth is almost 300 times the size of Dettori’s.
Speaking in an interview during this year’s Wimbledon championship, Pegula said: “I personally don’t have that money. It’s probably my dad’s or my parents’. My family obviously is pretty well-known back in America.”
The tennis star is set for life whether she ever picks up a racket again or not, but just like Dettori, money still appears to be secondary to winning at her chosen sport.
