Women’s pound-for-pound queen Cecilia Braekhus to headline final HBO card on Dec. 8

The 45-year boxing odyssey on HBO ends on Dec. 8 when undisputed women’s welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus defends her IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO titles against Aleksandra Magdziak-Lopes from the Stubhub Center in Carson, California.

The co-main event will feature former four-division world champion and pound-for-pound great Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez taking on former junior flyweight world titleholder Pedro Guevara.

The 37-year-old Braekhus (34-0, 9 KOs) is regarded as the consensus No. 1 ranked women’s pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Braekhus last appeared on HBO during the Gennady Golovkin-Vanes Martirosyan undercard in May, when she bounced back from being knocked down in the seventh round to defeat Kali Reis by unanimous decision to retain her belts. She then defeated Inna Sagaydakovskaya via another unanimous decision in July.

She can’t wait to face Magdziak-Lopes next.

“I’m thrilled to be announcing my next title defense against Aleksandra Magdziak-Lopes,” Braekhus said in a press release statement. “I know Aleksandra very well and this will be a very tough challenge for me.”

She added: “Thanks very much to HBO for putting me on the network again. I promise to deliver another big fight, my last fight was very exciting and this one will be as well, I don’t do boring fights.”

At 38, Magdziak-Lopes (18-4-3, 1 KO) is a two-time super welterweight title challenger. She lost those bouts via decision to Mikaela Lauren and Ewa Piatkowska. The native of Poland looks to make the third time the charm.

“It’s been my dream to fight Cecilia and I can’t wait to fight her,” Magdziak-Lopes said. “She is the best women’s fighter in the world and has been for many years. But on Dec. 8, I will be up to the challenge and come out victorious with her titles.”
