What do we know about Mike Tyson as the family man and his six kids?

A rising star in the film industry, a future tennis ace and an aspiring musician… Mike Tyson may be ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ but what do we know about the boxing star as the family man and his six children?

  • Mike Tyson has six children – Amir, Miguel, Morocco, Mikey, Milan and Rayna
  • The former heavyweight champion of the world is a family man with his kids
  • He tragically lost daughter Exodus to accidental death at their Phoenix home back in 2009 which he later described as the lowest moment of his life
  • His children are pursuing various careers with one in film, one a clothing designer, one an avid jazz musician and another aiming for professional tennis

There is more than one side to Mike Tyson.

There is the reputation as one of the most revered boxers ever, famously known as ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’, and then there is Mike Tyson the dad, the family man.

Tyson, 53, is currently plotting a sensational return to the ring with an exhibition bout and he has shown himself to be in tremendous shape having remained active since stepping away from the ring many years ago.

‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ has shown a tenderness as he helps his kids reach their goals

Part of keeping active has been raising his six children – Mikey Lorna (30), Rayna (24) Amir (22),  Miguel (18), Milan (12) and Morocco (9).

Some are incredibly sporty, others have shown passions and a focus in other careers including in the film industry, modelling and business with son Amir setting up his own clothing line.

Tyson, who is on his third marriage after divorcing Robin Givens in 1989 and Monica Turner in 2003,  is incredibly close with each of his children and has done what he can to help them achieve their goals,  whether that be in or out of sport.

Mikey Lorna Tyson, 30, is his oldest child and she was born to Kimberly Scarborough. The two never married following a fleeting romance but Tyson has remained close to his eldest daughter. She also remains close with her mother.

One of his children posted a 20-year throwback with Amir (far left), Mikey Lorna (second from right) and Gena (far right) who was raised by Tyson despite not being his biological daughter. She is Monica Turner’s daughter, Tyson’s second wife

She appears to keep herself out of public consciousness most of the time but does share updates from her life through her Instagram page.

Mikey Lorna has done a number of plus-size modelling shoots and was selected as the cover girl for a November 2016 edition of Queen magazine.

Tyson’s eldest child also harbours an interest in beauty and one image showed her inside a classroom at a G Beauty School. Courses can include a focus on nails, make-up and other beauty treatments.

Rayna, his first child from his second marriage to Turner, is now 24 and much like Mikey Lorna, is very private as the child of one of sport’s most recognisable stars.

With no social media profiles to share updates, much of Rayna’s focus since graduating in film from New York University is in the movie industry. In 2016, she was nominated for Best Film Student at NYU and Tyson put a plea out to the public on Facebook to vote for his daughter.

Her IMDB page – which is an industry page listing any credits on or off screen in films or television series – shows that she is forging a successful career behind the camera.

The 24-year-old graduate worked on box-office hit film ‘Joker’ last year and also worked as a research intern for The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson documentary.

He packed a punch just like his dad as he was seen on video doing pad work while at home

Amir Tyson, 22, was his second and final child conceived during his second marriage.

His eldest son works incredibly and while he has not followed in his father’s footsteps and taken up professional boxing, Amir has a college degree and has set up a clothing business.

He graduated from American University in Washington D.C. in 2019 with a degree in broadcast journalism. Amir also received a minor credit in history having studied that alongside his reporting course.

Listed as an entrepreneur and actor on his Instagram page, Amir is proud of his work setting up streetwear clothing company Debonair Attire.

On the website for the brand, it reveals that he donates part of the money raised from selling Debonair Attire merchandise to finding a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.

His mother suffers from MS, a lifelong condition that can affect the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance.

Tyson had two children to Sol Xochitl, Miguel, now 18, and Exodus, and they lived in Phoenix.

Miguel is now a keen musician – he plays drums, piano and guitar – and does lots of volunteering abroad for charity, with a trip to an orphanage in Haiti in 2018 one of his proudest moments. One video emerged of the teenager playing an acoustic guitar to local children as they tried to play Jingle Bells while singing along.

Much like Amir, he has not pursued a career in boxing to date but clearly has an affinity to the sport having been seen undergoing some pad work with his ex-world champion father.

Fans were quick to be impressed with his lightning hand speed as he worked his dad hard in the entranceway to their grand mansion home.

But Miguel’s story also includes when he tragically found his younger sister Exodus in 2009 following an accidental death at the home gym.

The toddler, then four years old, had a cord trapped around her neck and while the exact nature of the death has not become clear years later, it represented what Tyson has since described as his lowest moment, having been away in Las Vegas at the time of the accident.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011, he revealed the struggle of coming to terms with Exodus’ death and how he was ‘torn apart’ by the freak accident.

He married his current wife, Lakiha ‘Kiki’ Spicer, 11 days after Exodus’ death and the pair went on to have two children together,  Milan and Morocco.

Milan is perhaps the sportiest of Tyson’s children and is pursuing a career in professional tennis.

Miguel Tyson is a keen musician and spent time volunteering at an orphanage in Haiti back in 2018. In one video from that trip he was seen playing his acoustic guitar to the children

She has previously trained with Serena Williams and Coco Gauff’s esteemed coach Patrick Mouratoglou and has shared the court with active WTA Tour players such as Yulia Putintseva as she continues to improve.

Tyson appears determined to do all he can to show his daughter the focus it requires to make it at the elite level of a sport and he has practised forehand and backhand strokes alongside his daughter to keep her motivated and pushed.

Tyson’s connections – he previously spent time coaching Serena and Gauff with some punchbag drills – mean his teenage daughter is on the radar of active players as she continues to develop her game.

For Tyson, who became the youngest heavyweight champion of the world aged 20 in 1986 when he beat Trevor Berbick, he opened up on what Milan needs to do to make it.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, he said: ‘I always explain [to Milan], “If you really want to do this, you talk about [Novak] Djokovic, Serena Williams, this is what you have to do.

‘You can’t complain. You have to love it. That’s what discipline is. You hate to do it, but do it like you love it”.’

Djokovic, who Tyson wants his youngest daughter to mirror, has posed for a photo with Milan in a post that appears on her Instagram page.

Milan’s younger brother Morocco, aged nine, is also incredibly sporty and has coaches for tennis and boxing. He has also shown off his burgeoning golf skills with a session working on his drive swing.

While there has been and will be plenty for Mike to celebrate with his children, his marriages have shown a darker side to family life.

He had a tumultuous relationship Givens and 11 months after their first date they married. The heavyweight was just 22 at the time. Tyson has since claimed that Givens claimed she was pregnant to ensure he agreed to marry.

Givens, a Sarah Lawrence graduate, was an actress who was starring on the ABC sitcom ‘Head of the Class’ at the time they got married.

But there was a volatile side to the relationship and it was made public when they held a joint-interview with broadcasting network ABC months prior to their divorce in 1999.

Givens told the host: ‘[He has an] extremely volatile temper. He has a side to him that is scary. Michael is intimidating to say the least. I think there is a time when he cannot control his temper and that is frightening to me or to my mother and to anyone around, it’s scary.

‘He gets out of control, throwing, screaming, he shakes, he pushes, he swings. Sometimes I think he is trying to scare me.’

In 2013 in a no-holds-barred memoir, ‘Undisputed Truth’, Tyson wrote that Givens and her mother had been ‘on the prowl for a big black celebrity for Robin,’ and Tyson, at the height of his fame in 1987, fit the bill. The fall-out rumbled on for years.

Tyson’s first wife Robin Givens (right) gave a now-famous interview to ABC in 1998 alongside Tyson where she explained the tumultuous nature of their relationship. He is now on his third marriage having divorced Givens in 1989 and his second wife Monica Turner in 2003

Givens has continued working as an actor and recently appeared in the hit TV series Riverdale.

He did not re-marry for a further eight years when he wedded the mother of two of his children, Rayna and Amir.

Turner was first introduced to Tyson in 1990, a year on from his divorce with Givens, and they went on to marry in 1997.

The pair stayed in touch even after Tyson was given a 10-year prison sentence, four years suspended, in 1992 after being found guilty of rape by an Indiana jury.

Tyson claimed the sex was consensual but the world-famous fighter was indicted by a grand jury and was released three years later, in 1995.

Turner, a qualified Pediatrician, stuck by him and got married two years on before sticking together through until 2003 when she filed for divorce.

She eventually filed for divorce citing claims of adultery on Tyson’s part and following a court battle, he agreed to pay her $6.5 million and hand over the deed to the couple’s 61-room Connecticut mansion.
