Boxing icon Roy Jones Jr has said a future fight with Tommy Fury would need to happen "early next year" if it's to get the green light.
Speculation emerged in October that the former four-weight world champion had held talks with the Fury family over facing its up-and-coming star. And the man himself has confirmed as much, suggesting he'd be open to facing 24-year-old 'TNT' in his latest prize-fight.
"There is truth to that, we spoke in Saudi Arabia because of the fact that John Fury was with Tyson ahead of his fight [against Francis Ngannou]," Jones Jr told Betway. "Me and the Fury family, we have a lot of history. I was one of the people who told Tyson five or six years back that he could come back and beat all of them and that’s what he has done.

"To be in the ring with somebody from the social media era and have a big fight with Tommy Fury, I may not be who I was but to be in with against someone from the YouTube era, it’s a different type of thing and can captivate the audience. I think it’s a good thing."
However, Jones Jr went on to say the timing would have to be right for the fixture to go ahead considering he's set to turn 55 in January. The American is targeting early 2024 as a potential slot in the calendar, having most recently fought former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis to a decision defeat in April.

That marked a return to the professional circuit three years after Jones Jr fought Mike Tyson in an eight-round exhibition. The veteran may not stop at Fury before hanging up the gloves for good, however, with one of TNT's past opponents also on his radar.
"I’ll be 55 years old if we fight," added the ring legend. "It would be a very interesting fight for both of us because of my age. My mind can still do it, but body isn’t able to, so I’ll have to figure it out and be smarter.

"I think the fight could (do bigger numbers than against Mike Tyson) because he has the social media following. I think a Jake Paul fight is also possible."
Fury previously beat 'The Problem Child' via decision in February 2023 before besting KSI eight months later in Manchester. Paul has since returned to winning ways with a 10-round decision over UFC legend Nate Diaz in August, and he may have another king of combat sports in his sights next year.
