Burnett vs. Donaire results, live updates and round-by-round scoring

Ryan Burnett and Nonito Donaire meet in the quarterfinals of the World Boxing Super Series and for Burnett’s WBA (Super) bantamweight title and the vacant WBA diamond bantamweight title from the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Burnett (19-0, 9 KOs), the No. 1 seed in the tournament, makes the second defense of the title when he beat Zhanat Zhakiyanov in October 2017. The 26-old last fought in March, defeating Yonfrez Parejo by unanimous decision.

Donaire (38-5, 24 KOs), who is dropping down two weight classes, possesses one of the greatest careers in boxing. He’s captured five world titles in five different weights and earlier in the decade was recognized as pound-for-pound one of the best fighters in the world. But the 35-yer-old has fallen on a bit of a skid, going 11-4 in the last seven years including losing a lopsided decision to Carl Frampton in April.

The winner takes on Zolani Tete in the semifinals.

Burnett vs. Donaire results

5:18 p.m.: Round 1 to Burnett (10-9). Both fighters were really active and that favors Burnett due to the hard weight cut for Donaire.

5:07 p.m.: It is time for the co-main event: Ryan Burnett meets Nonito Donaire in the quarterfinals of the World Boxing Super Series and for Burnett’s WBA (Super) bantamweight title and the vacant WBA diamond bantamweight title. Burnett (19-9, 9 KOs) is the No.1 seed in the tournament. Donaire (38-5, 24 KOs) is regarded as one of the best fighters to compete in the lower weight classes. Can Burnett show why he’s the best bantamweight in the world or does the “Filipino Flash” show he’s got more life in him?

Zach Parker captures British Super Middleweight title over Darryll Williams amid controversy

4:50 p.m.: Parker def. Williams by split decision (113-115,  117-112, 115-114) to win British Super Middlweight championship. What a horrendous scorecard. How any judge could give more than three rounds to Parker is a head scratcher. Williams threw the harder shot, more active throughout and Parker didn’t do much after injuring his left shoulder early on. Williams’ team needs to rewatch the fight and consider an appeal. One of the worst decisions in recent memory.

4:34 p.m.: We enter the tenth round and Williams is well ahead. While Parker should be commended for his toughness for competing with one arm, but it has to become a point where his corner puts a stop to this. Always have look out for the best interests of your fighter.

4:20 p.m.: Wonder if Parker has an injury to his left hand or shoulder. He’s been fighting in the southpaw stance for a good chunk of the fight.

4:15 p.m.: Solid action through four rounds. Parker and Williams have each had their moments. Williams is landing the harder shots and winning so far. Parker needs to keep it on the inside and work from there. He cannot win a slugfest.

3:55 p.m.: Coming up at Burnett vs. Donaire: Zach Parker faces off with Darryll Williams for the vacant BBBofC British Super Middleweight title. Parker (16-0, 11 KOs) rolls into the biggest contest of his career with five stoppages in his last seven bouts. Williams (17-0, 7 KOs) comes in after ferociously stopping Raimonds Sniedze by TKO in June. This should be a barnburner.

Paul Butler earns WBSS reserve spot with decision victory over Yoan Boyeaux

3:51 p.m.: Butler def. Boyeaux by a score of 99-91 to earn a reserve spot in the WBBS bantamweight tournament in case Ryan Burnett or Nonito Donaire suffer an injury. A workmanlike performance from Butler. Boxed superbly well and never let Boyeaux really get going. He picked him apart to the body and when the Frenchman let his guard down, Butler went upstairs. Good bounce back win for Butler.

3:30 p.m.: Halfway through, Burnett is up four rounds to one on our scorecard. Great boxing so far for Butler. Boyeaux may have found something in the fifth round, nailing Butler with a right hand, which sent the Englishman back and tentative for the round.

3:21 p.m.: Burnett making it look easy after three rounds. He’s ripping the body and keeping Boyeaux at bay with the jab.

3:08 p.m.: The main card of Burnett vs. Donaire begins with Paul Butler taking on Yoan Boyeaux in a reserve World Super Series bantamweight affair. Butler (26-2, 14 KOs), a former IBF bantamweight champion, comes off a loss in his last time out to Emmanuel Rodríguez for the vacant IBF banatmweight belt. Like Butler, Boyeaux (41-5, 26 KOs) lost in his last outing to the great Naoya Inoue by TKO. An interesting fight to kick things off.
