36ers’ big injury blow

The Adelaide 36ers have suffered a major blow with star centre Isaac Humphries ruled out for four to six weeks after sustaining a left foot injury.

Humphries suffered the injury in the early minutes of Saturday night’s record 106-62 loss to the New Zealand Breakers.

The former NBA big man looks set to be sidelined for at least a month in a significant setback for the 36ers.

Humphries has been in MVP form this season, averaging 15.46 points and 8.08 rebounds per game.

Adelaide is expected to announce former Melbourne United big man Jack Purchase as the club’s injury replacement player.

Humphries’ injury, and how the 36ers respond in his absence, will be season-defining given they are outside finals contention in sixth position.

Adelaide faces the Illawarra Hawks on Thursday before taking on Cairns on Saturday.
