Pom roasted for ‘worst drop ever seen’

England and New Zealand are heading towards a drawn Test in Hamilton on the fifth and final day of play.

But it could have been a different story for the Poms if not for an all-time drop from batsman Joe Denly.

Denly couldn’t find a hole big enough to hide in after putting down one of the worst drops in the history of cricket.

Fast bowler Jofra Archer steamed in to one of the world’s best batsmen, Kane Williamson, who chipped the ball off his pads in the direction of Denly.

Denly clutched at the ball and Archer believed he had seen enough as he began his celebrations, but Denly fumbled the ball and tried in desperation to reign it in as it hit the turf.

The reactions from his teammates were of complete shock with Archer left to bury his face in his hands in disbelief.

Williamson was left thanking his lucky stars for the second time in the innings after being dropped in the 30s.

The commentators couldn’t believe their eyes and then struggled to contain their laughter over the moment as social media blew up over the drop.

“Out, oh no,” the commentary ran. “What have you done? What have you done there?”

“Joe Denly has dropped an absolute gobbler. What a dolly”

Joe Denly with the worst drop I have ever seen in cricket. That is just unbelievable.

Hahahahahahahaha Joe Denly. That is incredible. Hahahahahahaha.

I think Joe Denly has dropped the easiest catch I've ever seen in international cricket. By a distance.

New Zealand are currently 2/200 with a lead of 99 runs in their second innings after making 375 in their first dig.

England made 476 runs in reply and will be hoping to knock the Kiwis off in quick time to then claim the victory.
