Fernando Alonso has promised “consequences” for those who speculated about his future after the paddock exploded with rumours about a sensational early departure from Aston Martin, and an even more extraordinary move to Red Bull.

Alonso has cut a frustrated figure in the paddock of late as Aston Martin ended what was a promising season in a disappointing fashion. The two-time world champion has suffered DNFs at both legs of the latest triple-header so far.

The result of these struggles has been catastrophic for both Alonso’s personal campaign in the Drivers’ Championship and Aston Martin’s Constructor Championship hopes. The 42-year-old has been relegated to fifth in the standings ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix and could feasibly still finish behind Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc.

Asked about the rumours surrounding his F1 future, Alonso hit back: “It is just rumours, normal paddock rumours, from people that are just trying to make fun of it and gain some followers, and these kinds of things. But I’m not into that game.

“So, all the rumours are coming from people that are not in this room, are just here to make fun and I think it’s not funny when they play with anything. Of course, that’s the thing that they are making, but I will make sure that there are consequences.”
