Tottenham hatch £36m swap deal plan as player gives green light to Serie A transfer

Tottenham have already made two signings this summer and their attention has now turned to keeping hold of one of their star players.

But Alderweireld is keen to move on from his time in north London with just a year left on his contract.

Roma are keen to snap up the Belgian and Italian newspaper Calcio Mercato claim the 30 year-old has already said ‘yes’ to signing a four-year contract with the Serie A side.

Roma chief Franco Baldini has now reportedly jetted to London to hold talks with Tottenham over agreeing a fee for Alderweireld.

But Spurs will try their luck at getting a player in return it seems.

Calcio Mercato claim the north London outfit will use Roma’s interest in Alderweireld to try and sign Zaniolo.

Spurs are willing to offer Alderweireld, plus £36m, to sign the talented 20-year-old.

The Italian midfielder is highly regarded in his homeland and has already been capped two times by his country.

However, Zaniolo is said to have his heart set on a move to Serie A champions Juventus.

Speaking earlier this week former Italian footballer Stefano Vecchi tipped Zaniolo for a bright future but says he should consider the amount of game time he will be getting should he leave Roma.

“He is a player who can become extraordinary,” Vecchi said.

“He can go to Juventus and play for [the first team] and do the same at Tottenham or at Roma.

“In the capital, he certainly knows the environment and has a staff [in charge of him] where he can play more than [at] other clubs.”

Zaniolo is under contract with Roma until 2023.
