Gareth Bale’s agent reveals reason behind feud with Zinedine Zidane… but Welshman ‘wants to stay at Real Madrid for the rest of his career’

  • Gareth Bale and Zinedine Zidane have not seen eye-to-eye in the past
  • But the player’s agent claims that Bale is ‘fine’ with his return to Real Madrid
  • The pair did not speak after Bale’s brace won Real last year’s Champions League

Gareth Bale’s feud with Zinedine Zidane was down to style of play, claims the Real Madrid forward’s agent.

The Welshman’s future at the Bernabeu has been cast into doubt after the return of Zidane as manager this week.

Bale has had a difficult season in Spain and failed to see eye-to-eye with the man who brought three successive Champions League titles to Madrid.

But his agent, Jonathan Barnett, claims he is ‘fine’ with the Frenchman’s return, though they have not spoken since Bale’s brace in last year’s final in Kiev.

‘Gareth wanted to play one way and Zidane wanted him to play another,’ Barnett told BBC’s Football Daily podcast.

‘Over the period of time it just got worse.’

And he claims that Bale wants to see out the rest of his playing days at the club.

‘He wants to play all his career for Real Madrid. If it doesn’t work out, we will talk again,’ Barnett added.

‘He is very happy. He will talk with Zinedine Zidane and we will go from there.

‘If you let him play how he wants to play, and have a run of games, he can be right up there.’

Bale found himself a regular among the substitutes under Santiago Solari, and has scored just three times in 2019 as Real’s season has disintegrated.

Zidane takes charge of his first game back on Saturday when Celta Vigo visit.
