Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards has hit back at Wayne Pivac after the Scarlets boss said Edwards’ decision to leave the WRU was “financial”.
Edwards recently opted out of his agreement to become Wigan Warriors head coach in 2020, and looked set to stay with Wales under Pivac, who will take the reigns from current coach Warren Gatland at the end of the World Cup.
However, the 52-year-old turned down an offer from Wales, with an offer to join France’s coaching setup rumoured to be the reason. Pivac recently described Edwards’ decision to leave Wales as “probably a financial one”, prompting a response from the former rugby league man.
Edwards told Wales Online: “I am disappointed with Wayne Pivac’s comments – he has no idea what my salary is in France.
“The Wales team is on the greatest run in the history of Welsh rugby with 14 international victories in a row.
“We have recently won the Grand Slam and a fourth Six Nations title under our head coach Warren Gatland.
