MotoGP hero Valentino Rossi tells Marc Marquez ‘he doesn’t have enough experience’

Marquez starts second on the grid in Catalonia today.

Rossi, meanwhile, will now be in fourth place following a penalty to team-mate Maverick Vinales.

During qualifying, Marquez cunningly positioned himself to line-up a tow from Rossi.

The Catalan heavyweight had also been paying close attention to Maverick Vinales.

“MotoGP hero Valentino Rossi has fired shots at Marc Marquez”

“I don’t know, maybe he follows the others because he doesn’t have enough experience! He needs to understand the line!” said Rossi.

“No, no, apart from the joke, Marquez is not only fast but is always very very clever during practice because he always studies his rivals.

“It is all under calculation, he knows exactly who to follow.

“At the end he gives you no choice; either you make your lap in front of him or you [back off] and don’t make the lap!

“But I was very focussed because I know that for me it’s important to start on the front two rows and I decide to stay [on a fast lap].

“It was the right choice because I did a good lap.”

Speaking after qualifying, Marquez admitted to being strategic in his approach.

“I followed him [Valentino Rossi] in FP2, he had a new tyre and I was with the used, but basically it is always the same,” he said.

“The Yamaha carries the speed in a very good way, and here in the circuit you need to carry the speed, they have good traction.

“It looks like for the conditions of the weekend they expect Ducati versus Honda but it is opposite, the bikes that are working better are the Suzuki and the Yamaha, which have less torque and power. It’s interesting to understand.”
