NHL free agency 2019: Kings re-sign forward Alex Iafallo to two-year deal

The Los Angeles Kings hold on to one of their pending RFAs and promising young players, re-signing forward Alex Iafallo to a two-year contract Wednesday.

Iafallo’s deal has an AAV of $2.425 million and prevented himself and the Kings from meeting at an arbitration hearing.

Iafallo registered 15 goals and 33 points in 82 games with Los Angeles last season, a 13-point improvement from his rookie campaign in 2017-18.

The New York native signed with the Kings as a UFA in April 2017 after going undrafted and spending four years at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He posted 51 points in 42 games during his senior season and led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Frozen Four. Since then, the 25-year-old has been an asset for the Kings as one of their depth forwards and racked up 58 points over the course of his 157-game career.

Iafallo is a versatile forward who can play either pivot or wing and is projected to be the top line LW alongside Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown in 2019-20. He’s a proven goal-scorer with a knack for the net, but the biggest part of his game is his speed. Mixed with his strong skating ability and attention to detail, the Kings have a player who is expected to continue to reach new heights over time and potentially develop into a 20-goal guy.
