If Mats Zuccarello doesn’t sign with the Rangers on July 1, it’s fair to say the hockey world will be shocked.
Traded to the Dallas Stars ahead of the NHL trade deadline, emotions have run high for Zuccarello and his former teammates. The diminutive forward, who will be an unrestricted free agent July 1, spent nine seasons on Broadway racking up 352 points in 509 games while becoming a fan favorite for the Blueshirt faithful.
In the latest installment of the Rangers missing the three-time Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award winner, Zuccarello spoke to reporters Tuesday before the Stars host the Rangers and said, “Mika [Zibanejad], he misses me like I was his boyfriend. He FaceTimes me every day.”

Since the trade deadline, other Rangers have expressed missing Zuccarello. Netminder Henrik Lundqvist, who played with the Norwegian star for all nine of his seasons in New York, broke down and was unable to speak about him following the Rangers first game without Zuccarello.
On Tuesday, when asked about the video, Zuccarello told reporters, “He’s a good actor.”

Rangers head coach David Quinn has also stated a longing for his former player.

Unfortunately, Zuccarello, who broke his arm in his first game with Dallas blocking a shot, will not skate in the Tuesday night game in Dallas.
“Everyone around me and my family was like that’s going to be an emotional game and a fun game,” Zuccarello said. “It sucks that I can’t play, but I’ll be watching. Still excited to have the guys here.”
