Joe Maddon is confident this won’t be his last season with the Cubs.
Maddon, who has been Chicago’s manager since 2015, is in the final year of his contract but said Sunday he’s optimistic he’ll sign an extension.
“(My optimism is) very high, yeah,” Maddon told reporters, via MLB.com. “Very high. Very, very high. I’m operating in that I believe we’ll be together for a couple more years at least.”
The Cubs have won 90 or more games and made the playoffs in each of Maddon’s four full years. They entered play Sunday in first place of the National League Central with a 64-54 record.
